LTEN 132: James Joyce: Scholarly Books

EBooks

An increasing percentage of the scholarly monographs and collections of essays acquired by the UCSD Libraries are in digital format. The functionalities of ebooks depend on the platform on which our access to the book is published: some publishers have their own platforms, but most of our ebooks are acquired through ebook vendors such as Ebrary, EBL, and EbscoHost.  Click here to read more about ebooks and the platforms on which we acquire them.

Reference Books

Several reference books relevant to James Joyce studies are listed in the "Background Information" page. Many printed reference books are shelved in the Reference Collection of the Social Sciences & Humanities Library, located on the second floor of the west wing of Geisel Library. The call number for British literature is PR; British history is DA.

You may also identify reference books by using the subject headings listed in the box to the right and adding the words encyclopedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, concordances, etc.  Examples:

Modernism (Literature)--Encyclopedias

Ireland--History--20th Century--Handbooks, Manuals, Etc.

English Literature--Irish Authors--Bibliography

Scholarly Books

To find what books—printed or electronic—the UCSD Libraries own on the life and work of James Joyce or on any topic, use our catalog UC Library Search. Roger defaults to a keyword search, in which you can type whatever words you are interested in and hope for the best results. However, it is usually more productive to change "keyword" to "General Subject Headings" and typing in standard Library of Congress Subject Headings.
