Finding Books: Library Catalogs
Books and many other materials can be found using the following library catalogs.
Roger: The UC San Diego Library Catalog
Use it to find books, e-books, government publications, journals, newspapers, maps, music scores, sound, film and video recordings, computer files, dissertations, videos, and other materials available from the UCSD Library. Use the “My Library Account" feature to view items that you have borrowed, renew items, request books, and more.
Search & Request books from San Diego area libraries -- UCSD, SDSU, USD and Cal State San Marcos (and also the public library). Items from these libraries arrive within 2 - 3 days.
The MELVYL Catalog combines the holdings of all UC Library catalogs and includes books, government documents, and periodicals subscriptions (but not content of periodicals). Use the online form to request books from other UC libraries. Delivery can be as soon as 2-3 days and usually no more than a week.
If you still can't find what you need from the above catalogs, try requesting what you need here.
Subject Searching: Try using the Library of Congress Subject Headings, the terms used by most U.S. academic libraries to describe the main subjects of books. Subject searching on natural words and phrases may give lower or zero results if not the "official" terminology.
When you discover useful resources from a keyword search: A glance at actual subject headings in the catalog record for books use gives suggestions of both the "official" subject term and new directions to try.
