A guide to library resources for students in the UCSD COSMOS program.

These are library resources to help everyone get started on their research project. 

You can access these resources (including those listed on the Resources by Cluster pages) on the public computer workstations in the Geisel and WongAvery Libraries. 

 

You can also access free resources in UC Library Search by selecting Open Access from the search results, and even more through the Free and Open STEM Resources Guide.

Encyclopedia articles to get you started

  • SpringerLink is a large collection of ebooks, journals, and reference works (encyclopedias), so you can filter your results by Reference Works and/or Reference Work Entries.
  • Access Science (only 2 simultaneous users can get in) : This resource is a good starting point for research and  includes science encyclopedia articles, definitions of scientific and technical terms, illustrations, videos and biographies.

  • UC Library Search : Access books and journal articles in the UCSD libraries through the link.
     

More Databases for Journal Articles

  • Academic Search Complete : Multidisciplinary database that indexes abstracts articles in more than 10,900 scholarly journals, popular and trade magazines, and other publications, with full-text available for over 5,300 publications.
  • Web of Science : Indexes more than 12,000 scholarly journals (including 8,300 in science and engineering), as well as conference proceedings and some books. Excellent starting place for science and engineering research.
