Get Started with Research: Find Media

Search for Media in the Library

Roger is the UC San Diego Library catalog that helps you locate media on campus.

Using Media in the Library

The Library is equipped to support public viewing and listening of film and audio materials from our collections, including materials on reserve.

  • Determine the call number for the item you want.
  • Bring the call number to the Media Desk (First Floor West, Geisel Library Building)

At the media stations, you can listen and watch by yourself or with upto 3 others.  You can also reserve one of the larger Group Viewing & Listening Rooms if you have a larger group (up to 30 people).  Request a reservation for a room via phone: (858) 534-8074.

FAQ: Watching and Listening to Media

Where do I go?

Watching a film or listening to a CD is easy. Go to the Catalog, Roger to look up the item that you need, write down the call number and come down to the first floor of Geisel, to the Media Desk. Give the person working the desk the call number and they will play what you need at one of our media stations. CDs, Videos and DVDs don't circulate to undergraduates, so the viewing and listening have to happen in the library.

What do I need?

Your UC San Diego ID card is your libary card, you will need it to view or listen to media and to check out headphones.

Your Student ID card = Library card

I want to watch something that is checked out to someone else in the library, is there a waiting list?

No, but if another patron is watching a film that has just started we encourage you to join them at the viewing station.
