Why Do I Care About Managing Citations?

There are several reasons to find a good system for managing your citations:

Easier to properly cite your sources
Avoid plagiarism issues
Save yourself time and aggravation so you can focus on the writing of your paper

You have many options for how to manage your citations. A list of programs that might interst you are below; however, you may find there are low tech options that work too.

UC-eLinks copy & paste feature & a Word document -- do a quick and easy copy & paste of citation information in one of 5 citation styles - I suggest APA or NLM. (see Getting to Full-text for image of the UC-eLinks screen and where to find the link)

Research log -- write it all down in a notebook

Citation Builder
Another library created tool - this time from NC State University Libraries. It has is the most simplified of the tools - choose the type of resource you have, fill out the information, and then select either APA or MLA citation style. Click Submit. It is ready to copy & paste.
KnightCite
A free tool from Calvin College's Hekman Library. Choose from MLA, APA, & Chicago citation styles.

Click on the Resource Type then enter the information in the form. Not as automated as EasyBib, but a clear and easy form to use.
Citation Machine
An easy to use tool for ALA, MLA, Chicago, or Turabian style. Use the auto-fill mode or type it all in yourself.

EndNote desktop ($$) and EndNote Web (free)
EndNote desktop can be purchase at the bookstore for about $110. EndNote Web is available along with our subscription to Web of Knowledge and is free - go to myendnoteweb.com
Zotero (free)
A simple that helps you capture citations and then later works with Word to add citations to your paper.
Mendeley (free)
An interesting new resource with social media leanings. A cool feature is the ability to annotate your article PDFs.
