Data/GIS Lab: About

About the Lab

Software & Computing

Current versions of Stata, SPSS, SAS and Stat/Transfer are available on workstations in the Data & GIS Lab for use by current UC San Diego students, faculty and staff. The lab is located on the 2nd (Main) floor West Wing of The Geisel Library Building.

One data-dedicated machine also includes SPSS Advanced, SPSS Custom Tables, Atlas.ti, Nvivo and PDF2XL Enterprise.

The username and password for the machines in the Data & GIS Lab are available at the Research Assistance Desk (RAD).  For more on the software we run on our machines, please see the software list.

All computers in the Data & GIS Lab print to the Imprints printer in the Geisel West Learning Commons. You can choose the black-and-white or the color printer. Printing requires you to have an Imprints card or a UC San Diego ID card as there is no free public printer in the Lab. Use of the 42” plotter is limited to GIS and map projects at the discretion of the GIS Coordinator and Map Librarian respectively.

The Lab contains a small reference and circulating books for both data and GIS. Be sure to check the shelves and spines of the books to determine the resource is something you can check out or have to use in the Lab.
