Start with the Library Catalog

Books (including textbooks), like encyclopedias, are secondary sources that can provide you with overviews of topics and recent research. Search the Library catalog for books (including ebooks) held by UC San Diego. The default search is keyword, but you can also search by title, author or subject, or use the full library catalog for more options.

  • Keyword searches retrieve more results than title searches, but will still only search book titles, subject headings, and tables of contents, not the actual book texts.
    • If you don't get a lot of results, try a more general search.
  • From Roger, you can limit your searches to electronic materials, including ebooks.
  • For print books, note the location and availability.
  • If you see >> Go to electronic version in the record, follow the link to view the e-book.
  • You cannot search the catalog for journal articles, only to see if we own a specific journal and what years

If we don't have the book or it's checked out, use one of our other library catalogs to search for the book and request a copy.

Search SDSU, USD, and the SD Public Library systems.

Search libraries worldwide, starting with the other University of California Libraries.
