This guide covers information resources--including databases, journals, handbooks, and websites--related to chemical and laboratory safety.

While the organizational and government websites are freely available, most of the resources listed here, including the databases and handbooks, are licensed by the UC San Diego Library. Faculty, staff and students should use the AnyConnect VPN client to access these off campus (set the Group drop-down menu option to '2-Step Secured - althruucsd'), and the UCSD-Protected wifi network on campus if using a laptop.

Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals
Learn how the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) for chemical classification, labeling, and hazard communication affects chemical use at UC San Diego. Both OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard and Cal/OSHA's California Hazard Communication Standard have been revised to align with GHS.

UCSD faculty, staff and students who work with chemicals in research AND non-research facilities (trades, shops, studios) must be trained to recognize and understand GHS labels.
