UpToDate offers evidence-based support for clinical care and drug decisions.

UC San Diego Health employees can connect in two ways:

Option 1: Network access

1. Join the UC San Diego network:
   • On Campus: Connect via UCSD-PROTECTED Wi-Fi, use a workstation, or plug into an Ethernet wall jack.
   • Off-Campus: Connect via the campus VPN (view setup directions).
2. Go to uptodate.com.

Option 2: Personal account

1. Join the UC San Diego network (same as Option 1 step 1).
2. Go to uptodate.com, click 'Register,' and complete the form.
3. After registering, sign in with your UpToDate credentials anytime – no VPN needed.

To keep your account active, sign in on campus or via VPN at least once every 90 days.

UC San Diego Health employees have full access — on campus or off.

On Campus

1. Connect via UCSD-PROTECTED Wi-Fi, use a workstation, or plug into an Ethernet wall jack.
2. After connecting, open any library resource.

Off Campus

Sign in with OpenAthens:

Option 1: UC Library Search

1. Go to UC Library Search and sign in with your Active Directory (AD) credentials.
2. Search for your resource, then check the View Online section of the record.

Option 2: On a journal, eBook, or database page

1. Select Sign in Through My Institution, or Access via OpenAthens, or a similar link.
2. Search for and choose University of California San Diego. If prompted, pick OpenAthens Federation.
3. Sign in with your Active Directory (AD) credentials.

Note: Some resources (e.g., UpToDate and Lexidrug) require a VPN connection for off-campus access. See Connect to Library Resources for VPN setup and troubleshooting.

Search for articles

• Use databases like PubMed (UC San Diego) or Embase to find articles on your topic.
• Click the 'Get it at UC' button in a search result to locate the full article.
  

Find a specific article

• If you have the article title, enter it in UC Library Search to check for a copy.

Request an article that is not available

• If the article isn’t available in our collection, request it through Interlibrary Loan from another library.
