Citation Management - EndNote Online: Home

EndNote Online, the web version of the EndNote citation management program, is available free for UC students, academics & staff. It is used to collect, organize, and share references & easily format and change citation styles.

Overview of EndNote Online

Citation management tools will help you create bibliographies and also insert your citations in your paper.  First, you must identify those items that you think you will use in your paper by searching databases, such as UC Library Search, Web of Science, or even Google Scholar and adding the references to your account.  If you will use more than 12 references, experience says you will save time by using a citation management tool.

The EndNote desktop program is one of the popular citation management programs at UCSD.  A very basic online version of EndNote is available freely to anyone, with a slightly upgraded version, also available at no cost, for the UC community (due to our site license for Web of Science).  EndNote online can be used alone or as a compliment to desktop EndNote X-21, or higher.

EndNote Online is a great option for collecting your citations so you can use them in your paper.  You can easily create your own EndNote Online account by going to the EndNote website, at https://endnote.com/  then clicking on the "EndNote Web Login" in the upper right hand corner, and then using the link for "Access EndNote Online classic here" on the right side of the next screen.  If you have not signed up for an EndNote online account before, use the Register button, on the right side of the screen, to sign up for an account.  Please note that links to "New EndNote Web", that are on the left side of the previous screen, require that you own a copy of EndNote X21.
