It must be noted that the administration's position on what they refer to as "DEI-related" content has resulted in unprecedented removal and/or modification of federal resources. Almost immediately after the administration transition, agencies began removing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility resources from websites and closing offices responsible for those issues. In early March, the New York Times identified hundreds of "woke" terms that are banned or cautioned from agency use. A few examples of changes affecting communities of color and LGBTQ+ communities are outlined below.
Agencies were instructed to terminate any programs and remove media, documents, materials, communications, and statements that promote "gender ideology".
The CDC ordered its scientists to retract and revise all articles containing "forbidden" words.
LGBTQ+ has been changed to LGB, such as in this National Park Service site, effectively erasing transgender people from much of the federal web (see an earlier Wayback Machine capture for comparison of this NPS site).
"Gender ideology" warnings were placed on websites the administration was forced, via the courts, to restore after deleting.
This cover article on Black soldiers was removed from a DOD journal; other articles in the issue remain untouched. Note that the Library subscribes to commercial databases that have indexed this journal, and the article remains available via those sources.
An AP article from early March addressed "tens of thousands of photos and online posts marked for deletion as the Defense Department works to purge diversity, equity and inclusion content."
A March 19 article from NPR reported that the State Department issued, then rescinded, guidance for attracting international students to come study in the US. The guidance instructed employees to avoid words including "women" and "girls".
