Factiva is one of the Library's most extensive databases for newspaper sources. Unfortunately, not all of the news sources within Factiva, are listed in UC Library Search. Please review the Searching Factiva information on how to locate articles within Factiva.

Searching the Approved Resources in Factiva

If you don't follow the steps in this order, the pre-populated links will not work correctly.

Log in to the VPN.
Connect to Factiva.
Select UC San Diego as your UC campus.
Use the pre-populated search links below, which have been divided geographically and limited to articles published in approved titles during the last 12 months
In the upper right of your screen, click Modify Search to type your topic into the search
Enter your free text terms in the upper box. Use "and" in between words and phrases.
Specify your date range in the drop down box.
Click on the Search button.

If you would like to search for a specific newspaper.

Follow steps 1-3 above.
Click Search in the navigation menu at the top
Use the arrow beside Source to open up the source search box.
Enter the name of the publication you want to search (i.e., Daily News Egypt, Times of India, etc.).
Click ONCE on the title in the results list. It will appear above the search box.
Enter your free text terms in the upper box. Use "and" in between words and phrases.
Specify your date range in the drop down box.
Click on the Search button.
