EndNote 2025 & EndNote 21: Citation Management: UCSD Specific Customizations

Customizing "Find Full Text" for UC San Diego

Using Find Full Text, you can use EndNote to retrieve the articles for your references and attach them to the references for easier organization. You can do this for selected references, or go into Preferences and check the box to automatically run Find Full Text for newly imported references.

You will likely get mixed success with Find Full Text. For the articles that could not be retrieved, you will need to download those PDFs and attach them to their corresponding references in EndNote.

To maximize EndNote s ability to retrieve full-text articles:

  • Make sure you are running VPN (set to 2-step secured althruucsd) if you're off-campus. On campus, make sure you're on a networked computer or the UCSD-Protected wifi network.
    • Find Full Text is not compatible with our campus single sign-on (OpenAthens). While you can use that now for more of our licensed resources, it will not work here.
  • Configure the Find Full Text feature in Preferences. Check the 4 boxes marked below, and for OpenURL path, enter:
    https://search-library.ucsd.edu/openurl/01UCS_SDI/01UCS_SDI:UCSD?
  • If you want Find Full Text to run automatically on newly added references, check that box.
