US Federal Funder Public Access Policies: General Compliance Resources & Support

This guide provides information and resources on federal research funding agencies' public access policies as outlined in the 2013 and 2022 Office of Science and Technology Policy Public Access Directives.

UC San Diego Library Services

Scholarly Communication and Research Data Curation (RDCP) Librarians are available to researchers to assist with public access policy compliance. For NIH compliance questions, see the Medical and Public Health Librarian's guide on NIH Public Access Policies.

  1. We can verify that publication contracts will permit compliance with your funding agency's requirements and recommend language in case the contract needs revising.
  2. We may assist with understanding the details of where, when, and how to comply.

NOTE: It is the responsibility of the funded researcher to ensure compliance with the policies. Librarians can provide information and guidance but will not deposit on author's behalf. We are happy to work with author's to deposit publications into eScholarship, the University of California's open access institutional repository (which is compliant with DOE's article availability requirement) and/or data repositories.
