Roe v. Wade / Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization : SCOTUS Decision and the Federal Response: Home

On June 24, 2022, the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark decision that affirmed a constitutional right to abortion, and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey (1992), which reaffirmed that right. Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization is the case that led to the reversal of Roe and Casey. Justice Alito wrote the majority opinion in Dobbs, which was joined by Justices Thomas, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. Chief Justice Roberts concurred (p. 136) in the judgment, but did not support overturning Roe. Justices Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan dissented; their minority opinion starts at page 148 of the decision.
