Why Use Encyclopedias?

Specialized encyclopedias (and other reference works, like dictionaries and handbooks) can be great places to start your research, especially if you need to gather some background information, define some terms, or understand a theory.

Most of the resources listed here are online, but there are many more available only in the Library.   Ask a librarian to help you  find others, or look at our LibGuides for other topics.
