Chemical Engineering: Chemical Prices

Searching for Chemical Prices?

Locating bulk chemical prices can be difficult, and there's a chance you won't find the price for the chemical you need (particularly anything recent). Some of these resources are priced for industries and are too expensive for most universities. Here's what we do have.

More Resources for Chemical Prices and Industry News

Various resources for locating economic information about chemicals, industries, and companies. Includes encyclopedias as well as full text databases for trade magazines, newspapes, industry and marketing reports, and data.

Chemical Engineering Trade Magazines

Weekly trade magazines for the chemical industry. Some of the pricing data may be available online, while some may only be found in the print magazine. Current issues of these magazines are on the 2nd floor of Geisel Library, west wing.

ICIS Chemical Business  - Current Journals, TP1 .O25

Weekly sections: Market Trends & Data and Chemical Profiles. The Chemical Profiles (US, European, Worldwide) include uses, supply/demand, prices, technology, and outlook, and they are updated every few years.  The Univ Texas Austin Chemistry Library keeps a list of the Chemical Profiles by date and compound. Formerly Chemical Market Reporter.

  • Current access to ICIS Chemical Business, May 28, 2012 to present. Username and password required, which you can get from the catalog record.
The site opens on the current issue, You can use the grey tabs on the left of the screen to browse that issue or later ones. You can also search a single issue or the entire collection.
  • Additional access is available through Business Source Complete (several weeks behind, usually get tables but no charts)
    • Browse the issues by date or searching within the publication. Searching on your compound with the word 'prices' is the best approach. Do not search "chemical profile" unless you change the search field to All Text; otherwise you''ll only get a handful of results since only some of the articles have that phrase in the title or abstract. Also in Gale Business Insights: Global.

Chemical Week - Current Journals, TP1 .C527

Weekly sections: CW Price Report (pricing for 20 commodities) and Product Focus. However, these sections are only in the print magazine.

  • Chemical Week online - Business Source Complete (several weeks behind, doesn't include CW Price Reports or Product Focus).

Chemical Engineering - Current Journals, TN1 .C519

Monthly section: Economic Indicators. Includes Chemical Engineering Plant Cost Index, Current Business Indicators, Chemical Process Industry Output Index, and (through 2011) the Marshall & Swift Equipment Cost Index.
