Here is the difference in the codes and account you as a student will recieve in order to use ArcGIS this quarter:
You can use these codes to install your own copy of ArcMap 10.5.1 on your personal PC computer. This is a PC friendly software only and will NOT work on iOS systems.
In addition to the Data & GIS Lab in the Library there are two other Computer Labs on campus that have ArcGIS installed and can be used by students. Use the UCSD Computer Lab Lookup to find the computer labs with ArcGIS.
Campus ACMS also provides students with access to virtual machines through their Go Virtual program. These virtual machines also have ArcGIS. However, virtual machines can be a bit slower for certain geoprocessing tasks, but this is an option.
Instructions for installing ArcMap 10.5.1 from the Data & GIS Lib Guide Page as well as the GIS @ UC San Diego. You should all of the extensions (Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, Networking, etc.)
Online Course: Getting Started with GIS
It is recommended you take this GIS course (3.5 hours). You will need to sign in using your ArcGIS Online account that was created for you for this course.
Additional books and tutorials are available in the Library and online. The Data & GIS Lab has a number of books that can be used while you are in the Lab. If you are interseted in acquiring your own book, this is recommended for covering the basics of ArcMap / ArcGIS.

Provides access to general GIS data sets for China. You can download the datasets for use in other GIS programs.
