Smart Places to Start

Specialized encyclopedias (as well as dictionaries and handbooks) can be great places to start your research, especially if you need to gather some background information, define some terms, or understand a theory.

Most of the resources listed here are online but there are many others available only in print.  Check with a reference librarian for assistance in finding others.
