Hello, and thanks for using the GovSpeak guide. As of September 2024, I'm considering discontinuing the practice of adding links to the Internet Archive (IA) for simple link changes; these are notated on the guide as "older link archive," "archive2," etc. I would continue, however, linking to the Internet Archive in cases such as an office being closed or a database being discontinued.
This guide is used fairly heavily, though, so it would help me to know if users of this guide find those Internet Archive links useful before I make a decision to stop providing the IA links. I invite you to respond to the poll below or contact me at k5smith@ucsd.edu.
Thanks in advance for your consideration and feedback!
This guide lists acronyms and abbreviations commonly used by the United States federal government. Each acronym is defined and links to the home page (or best alternative) of the identified department, agency, office, program or publication.
While Appendix A of the U.S. Government Manual provided the foundation of GovSpeak, this expanded list includes hundreds of acronyms not included in that publication; most have been discovered by manual reviews of department websites. Links are checked and updated monthly.
Note: as of June 2011, GovSpeak no longer includes military acronyms. Please see instead the DoD Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms (1/23 note: the DOD Dictionary is no longer publicly available via JEL. The November 2021 edition is the last edition captured in the Internet Archive.
